Geography and Artificial Intelligence… A Knowledge Partnership for Building a Sustainable Future
Experts emphasized the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence and geographic information systems in advancing geographic research, and enhancing the integration between the humanities and modern technologies to support sustainable development pathways.
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, and supervised by the Dean of the College of Education for Women, Professor Dr. Athmar Shakir Majeed Al-Shatri, and organized by the Head of the Geography Department, Professor Dr. Viyan Ahmed Mohammed. The Geography Department Conference titled “Geography and Artificial Intelligence… A Partnership for Building a Sustainable Future” commenced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Al-Mustafa Hall in the College of Education for Women, with an honorable academic presence of distinguished university professors and specialized researchers.
The Dean delivered her opening speech, highlighting the significance of this scientific event in strengthening the connection between scientific developments and the humanities, and in embracing modern technological sciences, which contributes to keeping pace with contemporary knowledge transformations and supporting rigorous academic research.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Geography Department emphasized that the conference represents a scientific initiative aimed at employing modern tools and technologies in studying geography and developing its analytical and applied methods.
The conference included a scientific discussion session addressing the role of artificial intelligence in advancing geography, the importance of integrating geographic knowledge with intelligent technologies in analyzing spatial and environmental phenomena, and formulating scientific insights that contribute to building a more sustainable future
