The sixth annual conference of the Department of Sociology on “Demographic Variables and Human Security in Iraq: Challenges and Opportunities”, took place at Al-Nahrain conference hall on 25 May 2022. The conference was organized in partnership with Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies. Most recent studies have addressed the demographic pressure in Iraq after liberating its provinces from the Islamic State. Population projections are unreliable in our country since the last census was conducted in 1987, and it did not include The Kurdistan Region. The primary objectives of the conference are to address the high fertility rates, unprecedentedly rapid population growth, youth unemployment, and to create a policy for sustainable development.
