Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Women, Assistant Professor Dr. Athmar Shaker Majeed Al-Shatri, and the supervision of the respected official of the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Unit, Asst. Inst. Iman Rahim Salem, the unit held the specialized course tagged: ((Geography and the Labor Market, Reality and Ambition)) on Thursday and Monday, 26-30/12/2024 in the Graduate Studies Hall in the Department of Geography, and was attended by a group of faculty professors and employees, and a group of professors of the Department of Geography lectured in it.
The course aims to teach the following:
1. Knowing the job opportunities available to the graduates of the Department of Geography, as the specialization is related to multiple fields including environmental analysis, urban planning, geographical technology, and others.
2. Knowing the obstacles that guide the graduates of the Department of Geography, which are represented by the absence of planning to invest the skills of geographers in multiple fields such as planning, natural resource management, remote sensing, and focusing employment opportunities in the government sector without the private sector.
The course reached a set of recommendations, the most important of which are:
1- Spreading awareness of the importance of geography in development and planning.
2- Creating job opportunities in the public and private sectors and investing in environmental and development projects.
3- Updating curricula in line with the needs of the local market and enhancing the role of geographic information systems (GIS), and technological development in creating job opportunities.
