Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Women, Asst. Prof. Dr. Athmar Shaker Majeed Al-Shatri, and the Head of the Department of Geography, Asst. Prof. Dr. Vian Ahmed Mohammed, the Department of Geography, in cooperation with the Scientific Affairs Unit, held its scientific symposium tagged: ((Information Technology and the Future of Geographical Studies in Iraq)), on Wednesday, 22\/1\/2025 at ten o’clock in the morning, at Ibn Khaldun Hall in the College of Education for Women. It was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Enaam Daoud Salloum, and Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hashem, and a group of professors and students of the college, and a group of professors of the department lectured in it. The symposium aims to learn the following:<\/p>\n

1- Knowing the recent developments in information technology, and enhancing awareness of the importance of digital geography.<\/p>\n

2- Discover future technology applications in geography, and how artificial intelligence and big data can be used to analyze spatial patterns. 3- Encouraging the adoption of technology in planning and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The symposium reached a set of recommendations, the most important of which are:
\n1. Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques help create accurate and interactive maps and analyze complex geographic patterns, study and analyze patterns of human movement, improve public transport systems, as well as analyze traffic and plan cities.
\n2. The availability of computer laboratories in the Department of Geography in the faculties of universities, in order to apply the scientific aspect of the subject of geographic information systems and remote sensing.
\n3. AI is a powerful tool that can enhance our understanding of geographic phenomena and help improve planning and management strategies.
\n4- Developing communications infrastructure and building an advanced metro network[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
